Welcome Welcome to the abbreviated summer issue of “The Reality Check.” This newsletter is our way of letting Tri-Town residents and TTC members know what the Tri-Town Council on Youth and Family Services is doing to serve the youth and families of our community.
TTC’s mission is to reduce at-risk behavior and improve the emotional health and safety of Tri-Town youth in Boxford, Topsfield, and Middleton. We accomplish this mission through direct counseling, prevention programs, and active participation on boards that address community health and safety issues. We receive our operating funding through town budgets, grants, and individual donations from residents through membership and support of fundraisers such as the Fall Foliage Road Race and the ABC/TTC Community Auction. Kids and families ask TTC to help with issues such as drug and alcohol abuse, parenting, stress, self-destructive behavior, teen pregnancy, and depression.
Bidding Graduates
A fond farewell Tri-Town Council’s “All-Night, Substance-Free Graduation Party” was a great success! That comes as no surprise to anyone who knows the Masco Class of 2007. Even with 267 enthusiastic graduates in attendance, the party ran smoothly—virtually everyone was well-behaved, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves—all without drugs or alcohol. This was a Class with class! The party started at the Masco cafeteria immediately following graduation, with Richardson’s Ice Cream and various other snacks. (As Nancy MacDonald, past TTC president, used to say, “An army moves on its stomach.”) Then, it was on to Giggles Comedy Club, where graduates loved the three comedians, and the pizza. From there, we boarded busses for Town Line Lanes where loud music, lasers, pool tables, and a zillion bowling allies kept graduates engaged and having fun. At 2:00 a.m., we headed to our final venue, a beautiful moonlight Boston Harbor cruise aboard the luxury liner, Odyssey. Despite spending an hour standing in line for a security check, the boat trip was phenomenal. On board, the kids enjoyed a D.J., music, and dancing (go Rusty!), along with a breakfast buffet that included scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, home fries, French toast, fresh-brewed coffee, and the ever-popular chocolate-covered strawberries. After docking at 6:00 a.m., we traveled back to Masco for some juice and donuts before being picked-up by parents and heading home to bed. Thanks to TTC’s Nancy Coughlin and the senior parents for helping to plan the event, and to the 30 junior parents for chaperoning. You all did a fantastic job!
