Virtual Horizons Classes - Fall 2020

Please note:  Classes are open to ALL Tri-Town youth.  Please note grade levels when reading class descriptions.

  • 4 Wednesdays: 

    September 30th, October 7, 14 and 21.

    Graphic Drawing and Rendering

    3:30-4:30pm   

    Grades 5 - 8

    Fee $100 (includes a $10 materials fee)

    This is a Zoom based virtual class.  Learn to make exciting, life-like drawings including fast cars, skyscrapers and modern house interiors.  Using orthographic and perspective views create colorful drawings just like artists, architects and engineers. Develop spatial perception and visual communication techniques. Instructor Rick Muka has many years of professional experience in mechanical engineering and architecture.  A suitable tablet/computer with Zoom installed is required to participate with remote instruction.

    Pick up class materials between 12-3pm on September 27th in the lobby of the Tri-Town Council - Red Station Building - 7 Grove Street, Topsfield.

  • Tuesday, October 20th

    One Day Art Workshop with Vanessa Boyle

    Drawing Tricks

    3:30 - 4:30pm

    Entering Grades K-6

    Fee $18

    This is a Zoom based virtual class. 

    Did you know you can draw a giraffe by tracing your own hand? Or that your fingers can turn into an elephant? In this workshop, students will have a blast tracing their own hand to create amazing drawings that will surprise everyone. The workshop also includes fun motor breaks and games to help kids stay engaged and learning! 

    Materials Needed: Paper, pencil, colored markers

    Yoga Thursdays

    3:30 - 4:15pm

     Grades K-6

    Fee $12 p/ class

    This is a Zoom based virtual class. Join Miss Elissa of Bhuddhaful Souls, to improve  strength, balance, attention and coordination through fun yoga games, challenging yoga sequences. Participants will learn healthy stress and anxiety coping mechanisms and work on building self-esteem in a non-competitive environment. They will also learn about self-love and the importance of showing kindness to others.

    Scratch Video Game Programmer

    6:30 - 8:00pm

    Entering Grades 3 - 6

    Fee $110

    This is a Zoom based virtual class. Stop playing video games and start making your own! Learn the basics of coding/programming in this fun and action-packed virtual class! Each week children will learn to think creatively and learn important problem-solving strategies as they design and program a variety of different games and animations. Additional class  details will be provided by TTC upon registration.

  • 4 Tuesdays:  November 3, 10. 17, and 24th 

    Lego WeDo Robotics Level 1

    5:00 - 6:30pm

    Entering Grades 1 - 4

    Fee $110

    This is a Zoom based virtual class. Explore the incredible world of LEGO robotics in this fun filled virtual class! Each week instructor
    Kevin Husson will guide participants as they construct a variety of different LEGO robots
    including vehicles, animals, amusement park rides, and so much more! They will then learn how
    to bring their LEGO creations to life with kid friendly programming. Children will also have
    unlimited building time during the week between classes! Siblings can attend the program for
    FREE! (Note: Parents must pick up materials at the Tri-Town Council prior to the first week and
    all materials must be returned on 11/25.  Children may not keep LEGOs or any other materials
    provided. Additional details will be provided upon registration.)

    Lego WeDo Robotics Level 2

    6:30 - 8:00pm

    Entering Grades 2 - 5

    Fee $110

    This is a Zoom based virtual class. Already taken the LEGO WeDo Robotics class this fall or last summer? Then consider enrolling
    in LEGO WeDo Robotics 2.0. In this class experienced builders will have an opportunity to take
    their building to the next level with more complicated and advanced projects. This class will
    feature an entirely new set of building projects! Children will again have unlimited building time
    during the week between classes! Siblings can attend the program for FREE! (Note: Parents
    must pick up materials at the Tri-Town Council prior to the first week and all materials must be
    returned on 11/25.  Children may not keep LEGOs or any other materials provided. Additional
    details will be provided upon registration.)

    This is a Zoom based virtual class. Already mastered the basics of Scratch?  Then take your coding skills to the next level as we
    create a new suite of games using more advanced coding blocks. We will learn how to create
    classic arcade games using Scratch while learning how to use variables, (Note: Children
    enrolled in this class should have some prior experience with Scratch and/or coding. Additional
    details will be provided upon registration.)

In Person Saturday Workshops

All Saturday workshops will take place in Tri-Town Council's program space at 7 Grove St. in Topsfield.  Health, safety and cleaning protocols will be followed and a health form will be provided to parents/guardians to complete on behalf of their child prior to each class.

Saturday, October 17th

Jewelry Making - Beginning Beading Workshop

1 - 3PM

Grades 7 -8

Fee:  $30

Join artist-instructor, Emma Roberts, in the TTCprogram space in Topsfield!  This workshop will start with an introduction to using four essential jewelry pliers: round nose, flat nose, wire cutters, and crimpers. A wide assortment of beads will be available for participants to make necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. They will use pliers to assemble the jewelry. No prior jewelry experience necessary! Masks will be required as we safely create together.

Saturday, October 24th

Jewelry Making - Advanced Beading

1 - 4PM

Grades 7 - 8

Fee:  $36

Please note:  Beginning Beading is a pre-requisite to this class.

Reconnect with your friends and artist-instructor, Emma Roberts, in the TTC program space in Topsfield!  Students will build on what they learned in Beginning Beading to make intricate pendants and floating bead necklaces. Knowledge of how to use jewelry pliers (round nose, flat nose, wire cutters, and crimpers) is assumed. Masks will be required as we safety distance and create together.

Saturday, November 14th

Jewelry Workshop - Make a Seed Bead Choker Necklace

12 - !:30PM

Grades K - 3

Fee:  $20

Design and make a beautiful choker!! Choose your beads and charms, design a pattern if you like, string on the beads and Instructor, Miss Emma, will finish off your choker by attaching a clasp.
