The "A" word

Jon Mattleman joins us again this year to educate us about teens, but this year the focus is on that "A" word, anxiety. With more than 30 years of experience, he brings humor and expertise to a topic that can create anxiety in itself.

About the Event

Anxiety is now the #1 most diagnosed mental health disorder in the USA, and the leading reason why college students seek professional help. Over 40 million people in this country suffer from anxiety, and 25% of all adolescents ages 13 to 18 have an anxiety disorder. Severe and uncontrolled anxiety is similar to a learning disability, in that an elementary or secondary school student simply cannot learn to their fullest potential when anxiety is dominating. But, luckily, anxiety is a highly treatable disorder.

This workshop provides the language and direction adults need to assist an anxious youth. Participants will leave the workshop with an understanding of:

  • The signs, symptoms, and different types of anxiety

  • The differences between stress and anxiety

  • The impact of social media on anxiety

  • How parents unknowingly add to their child’s anxiety

  • Specific techniques to support anxious youth
