We are excited to announce that Tri-Town Council will be launching a new program: a writing group for Masco Middle School Girls. This writing group is great for any Tri-Town/Masco Middle School girl who wants to connect with her peers, write for fun, and use writing as an escape rather than a chore. The group will meet weekly for 60-90 minutes for 6 weeks on Sunday evenings starting February 28th from 7 - 8PM. The first couple of sessions will involve developing community norms in order to create a safe space. We will start with lighter prompts that allow us to get to know each other and build a supportive group and then introduce deeper prompts that require deeper self reflection. The writing prompts are meant for each girl to feel more connected to herself, her own story, and her feelings, as well as feel confident in who she is. The prompts allow for meaningful, reflective writing and aim to make girls comfortable expressing themselves, in a supportive group that wants to make girls feel validated and heard. Get ready to be inspired and have some fun!
Tri-Town Council Youth Coordinator, Wellesley College student, and 2018 Masco graduate Emma Roberts has developed this program and will be facilitating the sessions. While Emma is old enough to serve as a mentor and lead the writing group, she is young enough to relate to what middle schoolers are going through these days because she was a middle schooler not so long ago. Writing has been a passion of hers for several years, and she particularly enjoys writing poetry. When she is not writing, she can be found creating art, running, or playing with her dog.
