Thank you, Massachusetts Local Cultural Councils of Boxford and Topsfield! TTC’s PhotoVoice program is honored to have received grants totaling $1,300 to help support the program’s creative needs.
PhotoVoice is a youth-directed program in which photography, arts, writing, and other modes are used to explore, create, and express youth voice about topics that matter to them. It is an opportunity for our organization and community to support their healthy development by listening to them, seeing their point of view, and validating their perspective.
This year’s PhotoVoice team is made up of four high school and four middle school youth. They are a creative and eclectic group with various backgrounds and perspectives, which makes for engaging discussions, and much potential. They are still very much in their creative journey, so it remains to be seen what they will ultimately create for their final display.
But we do know this: it is certainly easier to make their vision happen with the support from our community!
"We are so grateful," said program guide Bonnie Thornborough. "This helps in practical ways, by allowing us to purchase supplies and materials, and the grants also act as positive messages of support." She expanded this sentiment by saying "Their gifts bolster our energy by affirming that our community—through our local cultural councils—sees the value of PhotoVoice. I believe this care and support for our young people's perspectives, voices, and creative expression helps our whole community thrive."
Last year’s team created a series of 8 posters that can currently be seen at The Center at 10 Elm in Boxford. The posters express their thoughts on themes such as creativity, play, fear, art, humor, and process.
